Can you share a bit about your background and what led you to join Special Gathering.
Sure! I’m a Meeting Planner with SG, and my work primarily focuses on programming and coordinating offsite events. Since we’re a small but mighty team, I also jump in wherever I’m needed, whether that’s logistics, planning, or making sure all the moving pieces come together.
What are some unique strengths you bring to the team, and how do you believe they contribute to Special Gathering's overall success?
Well, for starters, as the ‘eldest’ of the group—as the resident Baby Boomer of the group—I bring wisdom, perspective, and plenty of ‘back in my day’ reminders. I also bring snacks, unsolicited life advice, and a knack for staying calm when things get hectic. All jokes aside, that mix of experience and humor helps keep our team grounded, laughing, and moving toward success—plus, someone has to remind the group how to survive when the Wi-Fi goes out.
Describe a project or accomplishment that you're particularly proud of during your time here.
One project I’m especially proud of is the CCP retreat. It was the first project I led from start to finish—and I’m happy to report Dani didn’t have to swoop in wearing a cape or stage an emergency rescue mission. The event went off smoothly, no infernos, and was a big success. It gave me a lot of confidence and showed me how well our team can pull things together.
What do you enjoy most about the Special Gathering company culture, and how do you see it influencing your work?
What I enjoy most about the Special Gathering culture is the genuine family feel of our team. Working with such great people creates a safe and supportive space where I can show up fully as myself. I also love that SG’s core mantra—equity, justice, and making a real difference in people’s lives—guides everything we do. It’s inspiring and keeps me focused on why our work matters.
Looking ahead, what are some goals or projects you're excited to tackle in the coming months?
Honestly, my biggest goal is to keep doing what I love and live life to the fullest—while pulling myself up, both literally and figuratively! That means continuing to grow, taking on new event-planning challenges, and—on a personal note—finally to be able to run after a run-away shopping cart at 75 yo. 😅
What do you enjoy doing outside of work, and do those interests influence your professional life?
Outside of work, I love working out and lifting weights—and, to my financial demise, shopping. I like to think the gym helps me haul heavy event boxes, and the shopping? Well, I call it retail therapy and market research for event aesthetics—at least that’s how I justify it!
