Strong working relationships between an event planning company and its clients are essential as they encourage open communication, trust, and collaboration. This synergy ultimately contributes to the success of memorable events. Special Gathering's Partnership with Grantmakers In Health(GIH), a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to helping foundations and corporate giving programs improve the health of all people, serves as an example of a partnership that has proven to be highly effective.
Special Gathering’s journey with GIH began in the fall of 2022. “It was exciting to partner with a philanthropic organization that centers on health equity. It was like a dream come true because our values aligned, and at SG, health is wealth, and equity in health is imperative for communities of color to thrive,” said Special Gathering CEO Dani Johnson.
For the third consecutive year, GIH selected Special Gathering to plan and execute its annual GIH Conference on Health and Philanthropy. Senior Program Director and Strategic Advisor Kate Treanor says GIH chose Special Gathering for a variety of reasons, particularly valuing President Dani Johnson’s expertise in event management and her extensive experience in philanthropy.
“She understood our organization and constituent community,” said Treanor. GIH also appreciated Special Gathering’s comprehensive services, which reduced the number of vendors needed for the annual conference.
In addition to their offerings, GIH recognized that Special Gathering’s approach aligns with their organizational values.
“The company’s commitment to vendors led by people of color, as well as being intentional about outreach to local vendors and wellness practitioners in host cities, is important to us,” said Treanor.
Special Gathering has been instrumental in helping GIH improve its conference planning processes.“Special Gathering introduced us to new and more efficient ways of event planning,” said Treanor. For example, the first year we worked with Special Gathering, Dani designed and implemented the annual conference online registration system and upgraded on-site registration to a kiosk-based check-in system.” Treanor also values the connection GIH has made with various vendors while working with Special Gathering.
In 2025, GIH and Special Gathering will have a packed schedule, and the team is enthusiastic about making it a success.
“We love the SG team!” says Treanor. “Dani and her colleagues are dedicated to ensuring GIH events run smoothly and look great. From plenary and breakout sessions to wellness breaks and receptions, the team’s expertise shines through.”
